A former Indy Racing League champion, Tony Stewart has turned to NASCARīs Winston Cup Series to complete his racing dreams. In his rookie season, he won three races, a title not yet broken, and went on to win the Rookie of the Year award. In 2001, the Number 20 Home Depot Pontiac finished second overall in the point standings.

In 2002, Stewart`s most successful season to date, he won the Winston Cup Championship. Tony Stewart is the only driver to win the title while on probation. He managed this win after finishing last in the season opening Daytona 500, which led to him starting the 2002 season in 43rd position.
