January 19, 2007, Newsletter Issue #74: About the Series

Tip of the Week

The most prestigious and popular form of stock car auto racing today is the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. In this series you will find the top rated drivers competing for Championship honors. In this series, it is not uncommon to see such things as 185 miles per hour drafting and three wide racing. After being founded in 1949, this series´ action has not let up and is still guarenteed to provide great racing followed by thilling finishes. Originally, it was named "NASCAR Grand National" until 1971 when R.J. Reynolds became the primary sponsor of the series and it was renamed the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.
